The Olympic Games

The Hungarian Olympic Committee and Assembly of Budapest decided to bid for the Olympics 2024. Hungary has never hosted the Games, this global multi sporting event. The election of the host city will take place in 2017. Budapest as a future candidate city had to present a project based on a documentation with full particulars.
The goal of Hungary is to guard and protect the Games, the symbol of it, the five interlocking rings which represent the union of the five continents and the meeting of the athletes from the world and to contribute to a better world with understanding each other.

Sports are celebrated by all people, regardless of race, nationality, religion, gender, economic level, without any kind of discrimination. Politics has always been a part of the Games and corruption also occured. Increased security and transparency especially in financial affairs is a demand more and more.
But it is a chance for the athletes to compare themselves, determine how good they are, to beat records. It is also a chance for television channels, radios, even the internet and the spectators to have touching movements of victory and good fellowship. Infrastructure projects will provide long lasting benefits after the events. Infrastucture investments give work, full time or part time jobs for lots of people. Hosting will bring increase of tourists who want to stay and eat somewhere and who have some form of interest for cultural programs, visiting locations, gastronomy. Shops, pubs, local businesses will benefit from the surge of tourists. Buildings of the Olympic village will be converted into sports facilities which inspire the young and old to take exercises. Television rights, ticket sales, sponsorships will help financially.
I think Hungary will come away with a healthy profit at the end if the country hosts the Games.

So should Budapest organize the Olympics in the future? As this question became a major political issue in the past few weeks, different opinions are formed. It’s a huge opportunity, true, but comes with high risk due to the costs, which is at least 2,5 billion euros. Some say it is going to be profitable; the politicians in the right side are talking about huge revenue and profit.
However, this sum still does not contain the infrastructural costs, which could mean additional 3-4 billion euros at least. I think we just have to look around in Athens - there are empty buildings, dirt and ruined walls everywhere. To build this all up, it resulted in a huge loan, and was not even worth it.
And what about the other candidates? Hamburg already quit, because they held a referendum in this question, and the majority did not support the candidacy. Many people think that Hungary should also hold a referendum about this question, but I am sure this won’t be happening. The government is afraid that they won’t get support from the people so they don’t want to risk it.
The other candidates are much more prepared, for example Paris and Rome, so they might be a better choice for the games. I do not think that Hungary has enough money for the Olympics.
